Remy Wigs

There is much misinformation about Remy wigs and non-Remy wigs. This article will attempt to clear up the confusion. First of all, Remy is a wig that is made with Remy hair. Remy Hair is human hair that just has not been stripped of its cuticle and its roots are aligned in the same direction. Non-Remy hair is naturally the opposite. The cuticle has been stripped or cut their hair and advice and roots are all mixed.

The advantage of Remy wig is that because the roots are all aligned in their natural direction of hair does not tangle or mat. But most of the hair used in wigs, weft and extensions are non-Rémy, mainly because it is more readily available and less expensive to obtain than Remy hair. And suppliers of non-use hair Remy hair and put through a process known as a bath of bleach or acid to remove the clean and then apply a layer of silicone. This silicone coating makes the hair smooth and manageable and gives a burst of true. These wigs look good when you get them, but the problem is the silicone coating will not last long. It will eventually be washed and then the hair becomes unruly and begins to tangle and mat.

To avoid having a wig that will not turn into a rat’s nest after a few washings it is best to invest in a Remy lace wig even if it is a little more expensive. In the long run you will actually save money as you will not have to replace the wig as often. Unfortunately, many merchants will advertise their wigs as “Remy hair” when in actuality they are not. It can be hard for the average consumer to initially tell the difference between Remy and non-Remy hair because of the silicone coating. So how do you know if you are really buying a Remy lace wig? The first indicator should be the price. Remy hair is more expensive than non-Remy so if the price is too low to be true then run for the border! As a guideline you should be leery of any 100% human hair full lace wig advertised as having Remy hair that cost less than $275. Another indicator is past experience…if you have ever bought a wig from a merchant that turned into a rat’s nest soon after washing it then you should probably received a non-Remy hair lace wig and you may want to avoid that vendor for future purchases.
