Accept what can not change, not always easy, but that is the choice of Sandra Dubose Gibson made after losing her hair to alopecia at the age of 25 years. The time of loneliness, depression and self-reflection that followed took the resident of Wake County to embrace their new identity as a bald woman and channel your inner and outer beauty.
Dubose-Gibson is crowned Mrs. Black North Carolina, earlier this year and brings his inspiring story of women in Warren Passions will celebrate an event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Warren County in October.
Born in the Bronx, NY, Dubose-Gibson attended a performing arts school high, where she studied drama. He has performed in off-Broadway productions in New York, theater and song, but said she suffered from low self-esteem grows.
In 2007, she moved with her husband in North Carolina for a better quality of life, especially for their two daughters.
"It turned out to be a move very well overall, but also the time to re-define myself, the opportunity to say to me:" Who am I to be? '"Dubose-Gibson said.
Working with the atmosphere of society, the singer said he did not seem to fit in
"I always had my foot in the art, which helped me to stay in touch with who I really was," he said. "Nothing else was really going to make me happy until I fully embraced myself as an artist and not the work of my life should be channeled my art."
Although his journey of self-knowledge, Dubose-Gibson was diagnosed with alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes permanent hair loss.
"I do not feel good about myself and saw that it was really a roadblock," she said of the emotions associated with losing her hair.
Dubose-Gibson did not leave home without their heads covered, worried about what people think. One day he saw a photo of a beautiful, bald African-American woman and was inspired to change his point of view.
"I want to feel as free as it looks in the picture," she said to herself.
So Dubose-Gibson has decided to embrace his new identity to go out in public without wearing a wig, and document their journey.
