Hate those two-month breaks the CW has in the middle of every season? Well, fortunately the network has done something about them.
Turns out that four of our favorite CW shows have received extra episodes this coming season to make the wait a little shorter (and less painful). Deadline has learned that "Gossip Girl" is each getting extra episodes this season, while "Nikita" and "Supernatural" each get one. The intent is to bring the rerun periods in the middle of the seasons -- typically from the end of November to the beginning of January -- to a minimum as much as possible.
Yes, we also noticed "The Vampire Diaries" is missing from that list, but Deadline has a good explanation.
"TVD" has definitely grown in scale since its debut in 2009, and the show requires a much longer production time than the other shows that have received extra episodes. It's maintaining its 22 episode order because showrunner Kevin Williamson wouldn't be able to accommodate the extra episodes (not, be still our supernatural-obsessed hearts, because it's not popular enough).
It's also important to note Kevin has another big show on the horizon: "The Secret Circle." Two big TV series in one year obviously is a bit of a commitment, so we'll forgive the normal episode order this time. The three series that will be running in the midseason, when the main CW shows are on hiatus, are the final season of "One Tree Hill" and the reality series "Re-Modeled" and "The Frame."

NON-Color Fight with iPad Point in Subscriptions
IPAD made a few headlines this year with the anxiety over its app subscription model. Consumers were more than a little displeased to find out that their favorite magazines were costing upwards of $250 a year, the same as the newsstand price, to read them on their iPads. At the same time, big-name retailers had a battle of sorts with the tablet giant over the ability to send customers to their purchasing portals. But that’s not the real news behind why certain magazines are outselling iPad editions on the NON-Color. It comes down to simple marketing.
“The Nook Color has surprised publishers of women’s magazines like O, The Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan and Women’s Health by igniting strong sales that rival — and in some cases surpass — sales on the iPad,” says Jeremy W. Peters in an article in the New York Times.
While the iPad has been marketed as a combination do-it-all machine and grown man’s toy, if you will, Barnes and Noble took the quiet road with its target audience, literally. Commercials for the device, which has been on the market for less than a year, show women lounging on beaches or reclining for a few stolen quiet moments overlooking the backyard where their children play. The last thing Nook’s key demographic wants is an expensive device that lets you multi-task on fifteen different mini-screens at once.
And that price may have played a huge part in the higher sales to women. For a consumer group that has a notorious stereotypical reputation for not spending money on itself, the Nook Color was at a far-less guilt-inducing price point than the iPad, while still affording women the convenience of portable subscription-based reading and downloadable apps.
While Barnes and Noble will not reveal specific sales numbers for the Nook other than to say it is in the strong millions, several magazine publishers have now come forward with the information about how their sales are faring on the Nook Color versus the iPad. Publishing mainstay Rodale, which publishes Runners’ World, Women’s Health, and Prevention, just to name a few, now reports that it sells five times as many subscriptions on the Nook Color as it does on the iPad.

New York City: 'Feeling Hot Hot Hot'
NY Weather Examiner
When heading outdoors today, and the next couple of days, it will be impossible to avoid 'feeling hot, hot, hot'. There is, and will continue to be, a dome of high pressure covering the eastern half of the United States. For those who are interested in the history of music:
"In 1982 Alphonsus Celestine Edmund Cassell, aka arrow, recorded the album Hot Hot Hot, the title track, "Hot Hot Hot", becoming his first pan-caribbean hit and the biggest selling soca hit of all time. It was adopted as the theme song of the 1986 FIFA world cup in Mexico.
"Hot Hot Hot" became an instant dance floor hit and was later covered by artists around the world, most notably in 1987 by American singer David Johansen under the name Buster Poindexter.
Buster Poindexter's version of "Hot Hot Hot" was released as the first single from his album Buster Poindexter. It garnered extensive airplay through radio, MTV, and other television appearances"
Back to the weather:
The NWS (national weather service) has issued an excessive heat warning for the entire tri-state area right on through tomorrow night. This may end up being extended into Saturday night.
Today with the heat building in from the southwest under mainly clear skies, a light southwesterly wind, and a high sun angle the temperatures have soared into the upper 90's. When factoring in the humidity, the heat index was just shy of 110 degrees. If you were stuck outside between 11-5 pm, you can attest to it feeling like you just opened your oven door.

Heading into tomorrow the same conditions will exist with only a couple of minor changes in a higher low (oxymoron) morning temperature, and a wind direction shifting from the southwest to a more westerly direction during the afternoon. The westerly wind will allow air to subside down the Appalachian mountain chain, a warming effect, and head toward NYC. The combination of a higher starting morning temperature and a westerly wind will result in an actual air temperature ranging from 100-105. Couple that with humidity and it will feel like 110-115+ degrees. On your Saturday more of the same can be expected. With a variable wind, and a little more cloud cover, the temperature should top out in the mid to upper 90's with a heat index of 100-105.
To put into perspective how "hot" these numbers are, we only need to turn to the records. On July 22nd back in 1957 we hit a high temperature of 101 degrees, and on July 23rd in 1991 we hit a high temperature of 99 degrees. If you were wondering about how today's high temperature stacks up, the current record is 104 degrees set back in 1977. This record was not breached today, but it looks like "104" may manifest itself tomorrow.
This heat means business, so it's recommended to stay indoors where its air conditioned, or head to area beaches and wear sun block. If you’re going to be out and about be sure to avoid strenuous activity between 11-5 pm and drink plenty of fluids.
As a final caution, there is a chance of a short lived spot thunderstorm both Saturday afternoon and Sunday but most areas will not see anything so do not cancel your plans. If the skies should darken in your area, then head in doors and wait for the weather to pass.
